Our Story - The Journey to Homestay Kokopo
What began as a peaceful retirement dream in 2016 has now evolved into one of Kokopo’s warmest and most welcoming homestays.

In 2018, our family was invited to relocate temporarily to Kavieng, New Ireland Province by the New Ireland Provincial Government. This came after the head of our household was appointed Chairman and CEO of the New Ireland Tourism Authority, a position he proudly held from 2018 to 2020. During this pivotal chapter in our lives, we were deeply inspired by the transformative power of tourism. We witnessed firsthand how tourism—when well-managed—could empower local communities, stimulate economic growth, and preserve cultural heritage. It opened our eyes to the untapped tourism potential of the New Guinea Islands Region, particularly within Papua New Guinea’s broader development vision.
Motivated by that insight and driven by a passion for hospitality, we returned to Kokopo and made the bold decision to open our home to the world.

Thus, Homestay Kokopo was born on Sunday 21 November 2021—crafted as a haven for budget-conscious travelers seeking authenticity, comfort, and a personal connection to the local way of life.

Nestled on a quiet hilltop in the heart of Kokopo’s expanding Kenabot residential housing estate, Homestay Kokopo offers more than just a room—we offer you an experience. Guests enjoy the best of both worlds: the warmth of local tolai hospitality and the thoughtful touches of a quality stay. Our homestay delivers a perfect balance between affordable convenience and understated luxury, ideal for solo travelers, couples, and small groups who want to feel at home while exploring East New Britain Province.

At Homestay Kokopo, we pride ourselves on attention to detail, cleanliness, and genuine service. Whether you book for business, leisure, or simply passing through, we welcome you with open arms—and a homely atmosphere you will remember long after you leave.
